UK Visa Fees Increase from April 2025: Key Changes You Should Know
Significant Changes to UK Visa Fees in 2025
From 9 April 2025, the UK government has implemented a wide-ranging increase in immigration-related fees, affecting both individual applicants and employers sponsoring overseas workers. The fee changes apply to visitor visas, work visas, sponsorship certificates, and other immigration services.
According to the Home Office, the adjustments are intended to reflect the administrative costs of processing applications and to ensure that the immigration system remains financially sustainable. However, the increases may place a greater financial burden on individuals and businesses relying on international mobility.
What Has Changed?
Visitors to the UK will now pay more for their visa applications. A standard six-month visitor visa now costs £127, up from £115. Longer-term options have also seen increases: the two-year visa is now £475, while the five-year and ten-year visas have risen to £848 and £1,059 respectively.
Applicants under the Skilled Worker visa route are also affected. The fee for a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) has more than doubled, rising from £239 to £525. In addition, sponsor licence fees have increased to £1,579 for large organisations and £574 for small businesses.
These changes extend to family and settlement visas, as well as to other categories such as student visas and the newly introduced Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), which also saw a fee increase from £10 to £16.
Impact on Employers and Individuals
For businesses that regularly sponsor overseas workers, these changes mean higher costs for hiring skilled staff from abroad. Many employers may need to reassess their recruitment budgets or explore alternative staffing strategies. The increased cost of Certificates of Sponsorship, in particular, will significantly affect small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that depend on international talent.
For individuals, whether visiting the UK for tourism, family reunification, study, or employment, the rise in visa fees adds to the overall cost of travel and relocation. It is important to factor these costs into any immigration or travel planning.
